Winter at the Market

Filed under: Pike Place Market, Seattle — admin @ 12:09 am

January starts off well.  Sales the first week usually match or even exceed the week between Christmas and New Years.  But January cannot sustain itself.  No.  But then neither can January keep it’s gray cloud cover overhead for the whole month either.  Typically sometime during the month we Seattle-ites enjoy gorgeous blue skies although paying for that happy sunshine with very cold temperatures.

As a photographer who makes much of his bread and butter from city skyline sales, January is usually a welcome month.  At least from a photographic perspective.  Not so much from the Vespa scooter rider point of view.  Fortunately I own a car along with my three scooters.  Even more fortunate that my car has an efficient heater.  Now, if I could only convince the PDA (Pike Place Development Authority) to heat our open-air market space.

New Ventures - Old Themes

Filed under: Pike Place Market, Seattle, photography — Tags: , , — admin @ 8:17 am

I started selling my photography at the Pike Place Market in October 1978. Little did I know then I’d still be there 30 years later. Many things about the market have changed. Many things have also stayed the same. The Pike Place Market celebrated it’s 100 year anniversary last August with much hoopla and pride. We of the Pike Place Market are varied and unique, yet most of us have an appreciation for our little space on Pike Place.

Life selling “on the line” is tough this time of year. Customers are few while raindrops are many. Tourist season and warm weather will return.

PikePlaceGallery.com will become the virtual storefront for Chuck Pefley Photography … Fresh Daily since 1978.
